Robert G. Ingersoll should need no introduction to any American but does for most. To suggest he was one of us - an early promoter of wellness long before the term was spoken is, of course, to flatter ourselves. We might as well claim Lincoln, Washington, Socrates or even imaginary characters like Prometheus, Zeus or the biblical Jesus. But, to do so is to embrace certain ideals and passions expressed by one judged noble, kind, good, wise and brave - and a champion of what REAL wellness promoters profess today. If we wish to associate our cause with luminous personages, Ingersoll would be and is my first choice, especially when the cause is genuine wellness, not merely the other kind.
