Traveling in the aftermath of winter weather, or in areas that always see extreme snow and ice in the winter months, can be challenging. From interstates to small rural roads, ice and other frozen precipitation is indiscriminate - building up to create slick paths and rough, icy surfaces. This winter has provided us with a number of examples, from the epic snowstorm that hit the southeastern US, closing businesses and schools for days and making hundreds of miles of road impassable, to the winter weather that continues to batter the Northeast. The response of local governments to combat the dangerous road conditions has been a massive effort to fight the elements.
