Mamma Mia, the musical opened in London's West End in 1999. Mamma Mia was written by playwright Catherine Johnson and directed by Phyllida Lloyd. The musical is a fictional plot based on the songs of the seventies pop group ABBA. Mamma Mia is a feel good musical which appeals to a broad audience and has been described as unpretentious good fun. The original songs used in Mamma Mia can all be found on ABBA Gold: Greatest Hits a compilation album of ABBA's work from 1972-1981 including Dancing Queen, Mamma Mia, Waterloo, Take a Chance On Me and Does You Mother Know.
